Greenfoot
Greenfoot (http://www.greenfoot.org/) is a free tool to teach programming (particularly object-oriented programming using Java) to beginners using microworlds and game scenarios. It has been developed by Michael Kolling from the University of Kent and he is keen to see more pupils using this tool in schools. The website has links to some tutorials and research papers relating to the software but I thought you might like to have a look at this movie as that gives you the best idea of what Greenfoot is all about. I have failed to upload this to the VLE but hopefully it will work from the blog! If not, the introductory Greenfoot movie is available from their website.
